PROMOTING ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THE PACIFIC (PHASE 2)

OBJECTIVES

The objective of Promoting Energy Efficiency in The Pacific: Phase 2 (PEEP2) is to improve efficiency in the use of electrical power for consumers in five Pacific developing member countries (PDMCs) – the Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu – through demand-side energy efficiency improvements in the residential, commercial, and government sectors of each country. There is an emphasis on improved energy efficiency in new and existing buildings, which account for a high percentage of electricity end-use in all five PDMCs. The project will focus on reducing the energy intensity of the PDMC economies and thereby enhancing energy security, making energy services more affordable to end-users, and reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

To accomplish these objectives, the four main outputs outlined below will be undertaken:

  1. Output 1: Stakeholder access to comprehensive information on energy use;
  2. Output 2: Energy efficiency practices mainstreamed into government policies & procedures;
  3. Output 3: Energy efficiency programs implemented effectively and sustainably; and
  4. Output 4: Information dissemination and improved public awareness.
